12iS 5-year Airbox Hose Replacement

This is an iS topic…. Coming up on my 5-year hose replacement schedule in a couple of months. Already replaced the coolant hoses with silicone. Now planning on replacing the short 2” airbox hoses. Has anyone performed this replacement yet? If so, can you share how you accessed the nut aft of the airbox to loosen it? Between the engine mounts and wire harness, it looks pretty difficult to access. Any tricks would be appreciated.

Bob----we are not 'experts' in the Rotax industry, but I feel that their 5 year replacement on hoses ONLY deals with FLUID transfer hoses ( fuel, oil, water) that wer originall rubber. Not the air intake hoses. You might talk to Lockwood to verify that.

Thanks, Tom, I wish that were the case. No doubt that Rotax is EXTREMELY conservative on their 5-year replacement item list. The coolant hoses removed were still in excellent condition, and to your point, heat is obviously the only environmental impact item on the air box hoses. But if one is going to follow Rotax’ schedule, these are on the list. The rubber plate under the expansion tank is the useless item, as the plate is suspended a couple of inches above the engine housing. That one is a carry over from the ULS manual that Rotax never addressed.

BOB---I learned something today---Thank you. Perhaps they feel that the air intake hoses could crack or split after 5 years. I certainly hope not, or I'd question the hose material.
