After a couple attempts by the freight company to get the right package to the right place, my kit arrived yesterday afternoon and we were off to the races with getting things unboxed. We got everything out of the crates and will get inventory done over the next few days. I have an annual with some repair work to finish up for someone else, and Rotax Heavy Maintenance class that will kill most of next week so it will be a slow start. I'll sneak in a little parts prep here and there, and it feels great to have a big project to obsess about again! I know people have been curious to see kit contents and packaging and get an idea what to expect so I might as well start a thread and drop some pix here.
Pretty standard Van's packaging, this kit was in the old fashioned wooden crates but I understand they are shifting to something else soon. The plywood seems to be better quality than any of my RV-12 kits. The old crates had ply that seemed pretty thin and punky but this stuff is much better, so if you're the type that likes to build stuff out of the crate wood this will be good. It's funny how the little things can stand out, but I see from the tank crates that Oregon has much higher quality 2x4 lumber than we get here in central California.
This is the kit unboxed and basically in sub-kit form. From here things will get unwrapped and most of it should fit on the shelf unit and the lower level of the long table. Table is 12' long, 33" wide, 6 casters. It may end up converted to a wing rack along the way, we'll see. The tops were salvaged plywood from other projects. I decided the open spaces can't really hurt and may offer some convenient pass-through for hoses, clamping, or reaching from below.
I'm working in a 2 car garage. It's pretty tight quarters but I'll make do, and it beats the alternative of having to go to my hangars or shop to get things done. I have an "At least 15 minutes a day" rule, so working at home is important. Being in a smaller space highlights this, but I would recommend people think ahead about what you're going to do with the crates and the paper. As you unload things you will run out of room fast.
