RV15 Grows

Thanks for the great picts— I wish we were there.

Re: Rv15 tail being lengthened 10”— my rv10 barely fits in my tiny Port a Port tee hangar.

Although it’s easier to back a tail dragger in; is it going to fit in a T Hangar?

As the RV15 grows, then what becomes of the RV16?

I just don’t get why it is so hard for some people….. Don’t be these people flying into Osh!

Does anyone know if I should expect to park in homebuilt parking or GA parking if I’m not camping? What is the parking like so far?

From the app:

HBP is in the showplanes area.

On top of this people start bailing on Wednesday and Thursday so you should be fine. Be mindful of the airshow times. I think the night airshow is tonight so that may tighten the arrival windows.

As Dan stated above, this RV crowd sure has made its way to the top of the society ladder!

Not to be outdone by our good friend Jeff Orear, we had an amazing breakfast here in the campground this morning:

Roast prime rib medallions à la Black Otter
Eggs Syracuse à la mode with a hand shredded cheddar
Freshly Sliced Tomatoes and Basil Chiffonade (without the basil)
Warm sliced French baguette

All served on the finest Dixie biodegradable tableware here in the Chesteen Chateau.

Who let the Kiwis out?

I stayed in the dorms and was surprised to see on the map of who came from what part of the world so many from overseas. And in particular New Zealand. There were over 35 pins posted from Kiwis and assuming many more.
I really enjoyed the RV Social and met folks from Canada, Australia and even Romania. Great trip. Vans truly have a worldwide following.

Oshkosh trivia question...

How many pilots can be stuffed into Jerry's Ford Escort?

Bonus question...how many bags of groceries in the trunk?

Bonus question #2...how much beer with the groceries?

Yeah, it was riding kinda low....

Good to see we're well represented. :D

Great week with some great people!

It was sad to hear what happened today after I got home today.

Now there would be a great bumper sticker:
" I flew my balloon to Oshkosh!"

Would you come in with the 90 Kt. traffic, or would you opt for the 135 Kt?

But first, I need a little information on what primer you used.

The leaving crowd. Sunday 1234pm

Didn’t hear. What happened? I left Thursday when they announced potential 1” to 2” hail later.

Just got back home to Cincy a little while ago. That accident at the ultralights is one of the sights and sounds I don't want to hear again. My cousin took a demo ride in the Rotorway helo that went down just the previous day. Saturday morning I was in my final shift marshalling in the South 40, and had a clear view of it all. Security had our whole team reassigned from flight line ops to maintaining a crowd perimeter just south of the crash site.

Let's switch to something more light to make fun of - the Saturday night fireworks flop. :D "Sweeeeeet Caroline..." iykyk

Good morning all---
Sorry we left early. But due to an unfortunate weather related wind incident, we broke down on Saturday morning an left. During Friday nite's storm the wind shifted to the east, and wrecked our display tent. The claw anchors were fabulous, but the hold down straps on the upper canopy tore out, and shifted things about 6 feet to the west. Yeah, bent struts, etc. None of the display items were hurt, although the 14A mockup ended up turned over, and the Control Approach display was outside.
So----we packed it up, and drove back to SC.

Steve and I want to thank all of you that visited us! We greatly appreciate all of you. Shout out to Paul Grimstad of Control Approach that helped us tear down the tent structure soo we could leave.

OH------thoughts and prayers to those involved in the unfortunate incidents on Saturday.

Tom and Steve

Tom,

Thanks for the update and I’m really sorry to hear about the damage to your display tent.

Anybody think a different date would be better?

a different date for Airventure?

yes, just two weeks ago I was reading a thread, not sure if it was here or another forum, about how they were in a drought and folks were saying just wait till they get a bunch of planes there....and I sure did have that thought!
and sure enough, it did rain. Apparently it tends to be dry in that area, just ahead of Airventure.

And on a similar note, I have thought for decades that they should bump Sun N Fun to be a month or so earlier. As it is it's on the leading edge of the hot and miserable weather here in FL. Much more pleasant just prior.

Oshkosh used to be a week later. They moved it up several years ago because school starts so much earlier than it used to.

There was a storm every year then, too.

didn't it also used to run from Saturday to Sunday...instead of Monday to Sunday like it does now?
...or was that only Sun n Fun?

Oshkosh RV pictures

Nine pages of posts and didn’t see a whole lot of RV pictures or any pics of new or innovative plane stuff. Are there picture links posted somewhere? Lots of pics of the RV-15 and some nice looking steaks and camping setups but not many cool plane pics. Did I miss some posts?

great question...
Last week I was keeping an eye out for photos and youtube videos from teh show
I reckoned that most folks were too busy to putz around getting their images sorted and onto a computer, edited, attached, and uploaded....
I know when I'm at airventure or sun n fun, I'm too distracted to do much on any social media...so I understand why some youtubers especially are far behind real time... to the point of some even posting videos just in the last few weeks form Airventure last year!

Ir is a testament to Ford's engineering, I drove another 989 miles home Fri/Sat with an over nite in Paducah...:D:D

Carpooling

Thanks Jim, The only problem is I left Winder @ 12:10AM on July 10th and drove straight through and arrived @ 3:10PM in OSH. Won't be doing that again...

I think maybe it used to run Wednesday or Thursday to Monday or Tuesday, but I may also be confusing it with SNF. I do remember the magazines talking about “the weekend,” like some people came before it and some after it.

My first year attending was 1994. The convention was Thursday through Wednesday.

ah yes, that rings a bell. I must have been thinking about Sun n Fun that was something like Saturday to Sunday

After taxing from HBC for about an hour Thurs AM, I was finally off the ground and heading north. Couldn't understand why the departure controller kept repeating..."Don't fly anywhere near FISKE!" every couple of minutes until I snapped this shot of my panel.

I was the RV-9A immediately behind you coming out of P1. I enjoyed the AOA alarm tones courtesy of your prop wash. According to my logs I was 48 minutes from startup to takeoff. I took off about 45 seconds after you did. FR24 playback if kind of fun to look at. Here's a snapshot of RIPON - OSH at the time of our departure. Looks like they were holding all over the place.

Sorry about that brutal RV-12 prop wash. :D

Ha! That is funny.

The more I see about the comings and goings into OSH the less I want to do it. I may have freaked myself out watching too many videos of people cutting in line and pilots like the Bonanza dude that just came in and landed against traffic. Now even the close airports are about as bad.

If I fly in next year, it will be before the show and only on a quiet day!

Well it was enough to register as an impending stall - I was getting airspeed of 20-25 kts while not moving. I knew it was a -12 in front of me and thought it kind of funny at the time. Of course it was not a problem, keeping the cranky engine running at idle with 30C OAT while only having your prop to cool my engine - that was the problem. Can't imagine what my CHTs would have been if you hadn't been helping out!

goatflieg is BACK! My OSH short film...

I've been really busy since returning from my 9 day stay at OSH, but I finally got around to checking on the site. Thought I'd share this little tidbit: OSH in 2 minutes 50 seconds. I'm working on the long versions (three parts) but this was a quick recap. More to follow.
