Default Electronics International 2 1/4 gauge backlighting

My RV-4 is equipped with Electronic International gauges that have provided excellent service for 29 years. My only problem is that the backlighting on 4 of of gauges is no longer working. The function still works fine and the lack of backlight is only an issue in dim lighting conditions.

Some years ago I called EI about replacement of the back lights and was shocked with the cost, so I never sent them in for service. Has anyone in these forums had backlight problems and taken care of replacing the bulb or LEDs themselves, and what was involved? I have not yet opened the gauges myself, but will do so if someone else has successfully fixed the problem themselves.

I can be reached at rvjaketee@gmail.com

I just sent them 6 of my gauges. $125 each to upgrade the backlighting to led and $195 if it needs a screen also. Not to bad.
