Extra hole in j-stringer...

Michael Burbidge

Well Known Member
When I was dimpling I accidently poked an extra hole in one of the j-stringers for my wing. Should I do nothing, create a doubler, get a new piece of j-stringer and start over?

Thanks,
Michael-

Michael,

I had a similar incident with one of my j-stringers; I added a hole in the bottom of the rounded part of the stringer:eek:. I used a small round file to turn this ragged hole into a smooth slot, then cut a leftover section of stringer to a length that would extend far enough forward and aft of the defect to pick up three existing holes to each side. Match drilled and dimpled the repair, and it nested down inside the j-stringer nicely. Obviously, this repair goes on the inboard side of the stringer, not between the stringer and skin.
This is type of repair is standard in aircraft construction.
