Oshkosh-overnight from east/Toronto area

I plan on flying to Oshkosh, leaving from Toronto area on Saturday, clearing US customs at Port Huron, MI, then maybe stopping overnight somewhere just short off OSH, then an early morning flight in Sunday morning to avoid the masses.
Anybody have some recommendations for an airport and hotel just east of Chicago, ie. maybe South Bend, or Valparaiso or Gary....any thoughts out there.
I will have camping gear in the baggage compartment(RV6) but not cooking equipment.

My Mom lives in South Bend, so I am over there quite a bit. The people at B. Coleman at KGYY are very RV friendly, as are the folks at KOXI. Knox is a bit out in the country, but they might have a solution for you - they have mogas at KOXI as well, if that is of interest.

Both are worth a call or an email.

Going in in the evening has always been the least busy for us.
