You have to be careful with it though, because it takes almost no time at all to get to places which are so isolated that you're highly unlikely to be found before you die if there's an accident.
I've found myself paying very close attention to emergency preparation during these trips. Spot tracker AND 406MHz GPS beacon, just in case. 10 liters of emergency water in the baggage compartment for desert crossings. First aid kits, signal mirrors, clothes that are good for extreme heat and extreme cold (it was minus 2 Celsius at Rawnsley Park on Saturday night, would hate to be in the middle of the desert with a broken leg waiting until first light for a rescue helicopter...)
