RV-12 serial numbers

I've got my first condition inspection coming up and I am trying to make sense of the various service bulletins. The first owner was very organized when it came to service bulletins, the second owner not so much.

I have a factory built (SLSA converted to ELSA) RV-12 serial number 12007. I am looking through service bulletins, in particular SB 00023 - REV 1. This service bulletin says affected models include SLSA Aircraft Serial Numbers 120001-120094. So what gives? 12007 isn't between 120001 and 120094 but it is pretty darn similar.

How are RV-12 serial numbers laid out? Is 12007 considered between 120001 and 120094 by some quirk of Vans logic or am I outside this range?
 
Bob,
Someone forgot a zero in the middle or the end. Your serial number should read either 120007 or 120070.

Look at the data plate on the aircraft. It will have the correct serial number - hopefully!
 
Bob, call Van's and confirm! The SLSA's had 5 digit serial numbers so that's not an issue.. I think the Service Bulletin has a typo.. That's my guess. Should probably have the SLSA serial number range of 12001-12094.

Your SN is correct and this SB does apply to you. Good catch. SB should say SLSA 12001 to 12094.
 
Don’t feel bad, Jack. I had the same question about serial numbers when I was going through SBs a couple of years ago. The answer came on the forum here.

I reached out to Van's and they confirmed that it is a typo in the Service Bulletin.
