I am doing a tear down for a failing cam/lifters. When I pulled the suction screen it was clean. I opened the filter, washed its folds in mineral spirits bath then ran it through a coffee filter. I could not find enough powdery metal to even cover the head of a pencil magnet.
A friend that runs an aircraft engine shop said to make sure I got the oil cooler properly cleaned in case there was any suspended metal in it.
Option 1, send it to a local radiator shop.
Option 2, send it out for rebuild.
Option 3, buy a new cooler.
Any thoughts?
