Rivet question...
Van’s includes some MK-319-BS rivets in the RV8 empennage kit. These require a #33 hole. I wanted a few extra, so ordered CCC-32 rivets from ACS which, according to their website, are equivalent to the MK-319-BS rivets. Not so fast, Grasshopper! I received the ACS rivets today and they are clearly different. They fit into a #40 hole.
So the question is... What am I missing here?

MK-319-BS rivet diameter is 7/64 so ACS website may have a typo in the cross-reference.
Vans do sell the MK-319-BS rivets individually.

MK 319 BS is POP brand
This doesn't help find them but looks like they are POP brand.

I looked into buying the ACS version of the MK-319BS as well but ultimately chose to stick with Van's to make sure I was getting the same rivet despite their higher price.

The ACS rivet is different than the vans rivet.

Both the MK-319-BS and the CCC-32 are stainless rivets with a stainless pin and classed as a 3/32" rivet diameter...(I chuckle at this one) Yes, the MK-319-BS is just a touch larger in a pilot hole... needing #33 (or a #34 works as well). Both have a rivet grip of 0.020 to 0.125. But the CCC-32 has a slightly less shear strength of 230 compared to the MK-319-BS at 258. (Side note an AD3 - 2117-T4 aluminum rivet has a shear of 217. An AD4 has a shear of 389)
Disclaimer - Don't quote me on these numbers, its just what I have written down in my notebook, and I could be way off so its wise for you to do your own research.

Yup that notebook sure needs a checking and a revising because MK-319-BS ain't stainless, they be monel and carbon steel... and diameter is 7/64 not 3/32...

We use CCC-32 as a replacement for those nasty little skin rivets when there is a danger of not being able to buck. Just bear in mind that both these rivets are 120° and not 100° countersunk.
Never mind Grasshopper - Skyservice seems so long ago Rich

Nearly 16 years since I last flew for Skyservice. And now been retired almost a year. Time flies. 😄
