Pattern Change at 0TX1

Martin Sutter

Well Known Member
Starting today, February 1st., the pattern for runway 18 at Pecan Plantation 0TX1 has changed to a right hand pattern. The change was made to avoid a conflict with the new second airpark called the Landings two miles to the east. Both air strips are within Pecan Plantation and use frequency 122.97. The patterns for the Landings are on the east side of that runway. Please use extra caution when approaching either runway and watch for traffic that might be operating at the adjacent airport.

Martin, I've been expecting this and agree that it is necessary. I also agree that both runways should have the same frequency.
But I can also see some confusion resulting from that. Now you must announce which runway you are using. What will the two runways be called? Pecan and Landings? That would make sense, but will pilots remember to announce this?

The original airport should be called "Pecan Plantation", the new one "The Landings". Fortunately the runways are different, 18-36 at Pecan Plantation and 17-35 at The Landings. That should help in knowing which airport the traffic is at.

Me-thinks you guys at Pecan are just trying to become a minature DFW....or LAX.....:)

Martin,

Also are we assuming standard left pattern 36 at Pecan and Right pattern 35 at the landing.

Correct, at Pecan Plantation right pattern for 18, left pattern for 36. At the Landings left pattern for 17, right pattern for 35.

What if your're a prior Navy guy, and your airplane dosen't actually turn right in the pattern? What are they suposed to do?

PATTERN CHANGE PECAN PLANTATION AIRPARK (0TX1): OFFICIAL NOTIFICATION

TO ALL PECAN PLANTATION AIRPARK RESIDENTS AND OPERATORS:

The Official opening of the Pecan Landings Airport (66TE) will be 1 March 2011. Effective 1 February 2011 in preparation for the opening of the Pecan Landings Airport. The traffic pattern for Pecan Plantation Airpark (0TX1) will ?OFFICALLY? change to a WEST PATTERN. That will be a right-hand traffic pattern for runway 18 and left-hand traffic pattern for runway 36. The pattern altitude will remain 1700 feet MSL.
Please be aware that the Pecan Landings Airport (66TE) is located approximately 3.5 nm east and for traffic deconfliction will have an EAST PATTERN. The Pecan Landings Airpark (66TE) traffic pattern altitude is also 1700 feet MSL with left-hand traffic for runway 17 and right-hand traffic for runway 35.

The frequency for both airports will be 122.975 MHz. Pilots should use ?PECAN LANDINGS AIRPORT? for all traffic pattern radio communications while in the traffic pattern of the Pecan Landing Airport (66TE).

As a courtesy to other Pecan Plantation residents, all pilots at BOTH airports are requested to fly the runway heading until reaching pattern altitude before making any turns to minimize aircraft noise to the adjacent homes in the Airpark. All Airpark pilots need to be aware of non-Airpark Pecan Plantation neighbors and the need for reducing unnecessary aircraft noise.

All the information listed above has been submitted and approved by the FAA. However, the information may or may-not appear in the next published revision of the SECTIONAL charts. So all PILOTS need to be ?AWARE? that there may be some resident and non-resident Pilots that ?did not receive this important information?. We request that Pilots include Left or Right in their standard pattern radio call-outs to assist in pattern deconfliction.

We ask for your support and additional vigilance during this period of change to insure continued ?Safety? during all air operations.

If you have any questions, please contact the Airport Manager or the Airport Committee. Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Michael Bartholomew
Pecan Plantation Airpark Manager
