RV10A?

I was asked this question and I don’t know the answer, hoping someone might know.

Why is the RV10 not called the RV10A?

It is only available with a nose gear, thus to label it "A" is redundant.

Ditto the 12.

When Vans started the only thing you could get was a tailwheel, the 3,4, and 6. The 6 was eventually offered with the nose gear, thus the suffix "A" was added to differentiate tail vs nose gear.

The RV-14A was just called RV-14 until the taildragger was introduced. Maybe, Van’s is keeping the option open . . . :rolleyes:
