VM-1000 Fuel Burn Issue - Any ideas

I'll be calling JPI/VM on Monday, but thought I'd get a head start here if possible.

I have a VM-1000 (original) and just had the fuel burn reading stop resetting on each shutdown (it normally resets to zero on each shutdown/start-up cycle, then shows fuel burn for the current flight).

Mine just kept adding burn to the previous flight, and now has stopped at 99.0. I have tried every button-holding combo possible to get it to reset, with no joy, and the manual does not address it at all...just says its automatic at shutdown.

All other Fuel System calculations (Fuel Flow, Fuel Remaining, etc.) are working normally.

Any thoughts? I'm hoping its not the first sign of a dying VM battery! Thanks!

Cheers,
Bob

Just to close the loop for anyone that sees this thread in a future search. The fuel burn not resetting is indeed a symptom of a dying battery, as is a tach reading (at startup) going blank or reading zeros.

Good discussion of changing the VM-1000 battery chip in this thread.

Cheers,
Bob
