Classic Aero Designs PIREP

I received my RV8 Aviator seats (in Ultra Leather), stick boots and armrests from Classic Aero today.

Its all beautifully made and I couldn't have asked for anything better.

These are the most comfortable aircraft seats I have ever sat in over 21 years of flying!

Luke and Jeremiah provided outstanding customer support and really took the time to make sure they knew what I wanted.

I highly recommend them Classic Aero Designs!

I was just now on their website putting together my order. What a coincidence. How long did it take to get your stuff?

Classic Aero

Hi,

It took a bit longer for my order due to some special requirements, but its best to call Luke or Jeremiah and ask what the current lead times are.

Bye for now...

I concur...

One of the secreates to keeping your plane light is to not finish the interior, and my plane, all 990 pounds of it flew for 250 hours with an interior by Rustoleum. When I brought it home after the taxi incident, I decided that since I will have an "excess" of power, now might be the time to make some changes.

One of those changes was to install a set of Classic Aero's molded side panels. Luke and Jeremiah were able to cover the side planes with the leather I had left over from doing my seats. Not only did it come out great, the total weight of both side panels was eight (8) pounds, four pounds a side.

To keep the weight down, I elected to skip the baggage compartment and leave it as it was.

Jeff-what interior paint did you use?

Also, did you paint the interior parts before riveting together?

Nice pics.

Interior paint.

Hi Jim. The grey is a self etching primer on all visible parts (first scuffed with a maroon Scotch Bright pad and cleaned with lacquer thinner) before riveting. It?s a Sherwin Williams product called SW988.

http://www.sherwin-automotive.com/products/show_product.cfm?product=988

It has a nice smooth finish and dries quickly (but has deadly vapors). I am in the process of removing the controls etc. so I can tape off the powder coated parts and apply a final coat of primer before I top coat the interior.

For all parts not visible (under the floors, in the tail-cone, the wing ribs etc. I used a two part primer from Nason. See build log entry for details on that:

Hope that helps.
