Flap handle/rudder cable question

Working on the inside of my fuselage questions 1) Have you guys used the flap handle/lever as supplied or shortened it ? Are you happy with the position or would you have bent the handle in or out ?
2) One of my rudder cables has an extra plastic sleeve, where does this go ?
Thanks
Mike

I adjusted the flap handle length so that with my thumb on it it cleared my throttle quadrant without scrapping my thumb. I don't think there is any reason to bend it, my average size hand has full range of motion without hitting the sideskin. The extra plastic sleeve may be for where the cable passes behind the trim lever.

I modified my throttle quadrant to fit my hand at full flap deflection. And it looks good too.

Mike,

No bends, and shortened a bit. Look at the photos and you'll be able to see how much it was shortened. Absolutely no problems pulling full flaps.

Thanks everyone, thats the info I was looking for.
I'll leave the angle and adjust the length after I have the throttle quadrant mounted.

Mike,

From "24 Years of the RVator", page 41, quote by Gus Funnel, "The left-hand throttle quadrant is okay, but not especially easy to use or install. In retrospect, the standard push-pull throttle cable would probably have been better." Having messed with both, I would agree with him. Go with the quadrant and you'll also need a big watch and aviator sunglasses :)

Disagree.
I've used both and found the quadrant easier to use. The push pulls are mounted to close to the side skin and a little different hand dynamic is needed to use them. IMO a simple and well thought out quadrant is more user friendly. On my install I used two u channels, one up one down to stand off the quadrant by a 1/2 inch or so. Can supply pics if needed.
YMMV

Great install, a perfect solution to dragging the knuckels.
More proof that there is always more than one way to skin a cat.:D

The push/pull is lighter and makes for a cleaner cockpit also. The stock quadrant is a clunky thing.
I slightly prefer the action of the quadrant, probably because most of my airplanes have had them.
I actually bought both types and will mock each of them up then decide.
Just to complicate the decision I may look at a "slimmed" version of the quadrant also.
