North to Alaska

Hi from Fairbanks Alaska!!! Tom and Bonnie Lewis, Martin and Claudia Sutter and Bill and Debby Scanlan are part of a LetsFlyAlaska air tour with our RV7a's.

We have had a great trip so far. We have been flying number 9, 10 & 11 in a line of 12 airplanes. It is a little like being at the whip lash end of a conga line. The first day was bumpy so it was hard to get used to adjusting to the changing speeds of the line of airplanes as we all bounced up and down. The next two days have been much easier. We have had great weather for our first three days so the scenery has been beautiful. We have seen mountains, glaciers, rivers, lakes, moose, swans and bald eagles from the air. All while maintaining position in the line of airplanes. Our first night was in Quesnel, B.C. We stayed in a really quaint old hotel. We took a beautiful walk along a wide rushing river. The second night we stayed in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. We went to a silly "Follies" performance. In Fairbanks, we are staying in a beautiful resort. We went on a river boat cruise today and are on to Anchorage tomorrow. It is a good group of people flying a Mooney, a C182RG, a Comanche single and a twin, a Baron, and 3 Bonanzas.

Check out these pictures.

Who??

Beautiful scenery Tom,
When or who organized this trip? This is the first we've heard of it.

pictures into Anchorage

Yesterday we flew from Fairbanks to Anchorage in marginal weather. The direct route was really marginal so Dale lead us on an alternate route through a valley. Check out these pictures.

first picture over Alaska pipeline at beginning of the valley, note the dust over river bottom, winds were 40 knots on our nose through here

The adventure continues

On Wed we flew from Seward to Ketchikan. The weather was good and the sights were awesome!! The following two pictures were taken in the air. We took 220 pictures on this day alone.

The tour group splits up at Ketchikan and most head home. Today the three RVs flew from Ketchikan to Port Hardy, BC. This flight was down the inside passage. The weather was marginal for the first few miles and improved.

Tom,

I've read their entire site & I'm curious - what was their fee? I see the estimates on lodging, gas, etc... but nothing about what they charge.

Thanks!

Fee charge

Hi,

In regards to the fee, I had the same exact question, and emailed the owner of the company. I don't remember the exact amount, but it was right around $2,900 for two people, and $500 extra per person above two people.

This fee includes all of the guide services, the train excursion, and a few other small trips, some of which included high-dollar dinners (I think one was an "all-you-can-graze") crab fest. So it sounds like about $6,000-$7,000 for the whole thing (for two people).

Sounds very interesting!
