IFR requirements

In the UK, we are limited on homebuild aircraft to day VFR. A working group is being set up to lobby for a change.

Could someone advise me what the requirements are in the US for IFR on experimental aircraft in terms of:

Engine/prop
Power supplies
Comms
Navigation
Instruments

Regards and thanks

Paul

Experimental and IFR

Paul, Here is the relevant paragraphs from my operating limitations for my RV8A-N4ZJ:

8. After completion of Phase 1 flight-testing, unless appropriately equipped for night and/or instrument flight in accordance 91.205, this aircraft is to be operated under VFR day only.

9: Aircraft instruments and equipment installed and used under 91.205 must be inspected and maintained in accordance with the requirements of part 91. Any maintenance or inspection of this equipment must be recorded in the aircraft maintenance records.

So I treat it like a certified aircraft and add "Experimental" in the remarks section when I File IFR

Hope this helps
