Version 30 is out. We used it on a trip from Granbury, TX to Johnson Creek, Idaho and back last week. The new weather software is great and we had the opportunity to make use of it. There were numerous fire TFR's to navigate around. They show up in bright red and display the applicable altitudes. The airport symbols are now color coded for VFR, MFR and IFR. TAF's appear on a dedicated page and lightning data is diplayed by the cells producing it. Having runway numbers and centerline extensions on the 20 mile scale was handy when we were cleared for a straight in approach 15 miles out. Grand Rapids ist still the best value for a completely integrated system system out there.

I always look forward to the new releases, cause how can you beat getting new avionics features for FREE!?!

Version 29 was a huge upgrade in capability....I'm glad they're adding in all the weather stuff in Version 30....glad for all of those that have got the GRT XM box that is! Since I'm still playing with my 396 instead, I guess I have to wait for Version 31 to get new toys....oh well....I guess I'll go do the Map database update!

I'm envious of the trip Martin - I bet y'all must have had a great time!

Can someone tell me the price of the XM weather option for the Horizon I?

Also, they stopped selling it for a while according to their website. Was this a technical problem or something else.

thanks,

bruce

XM weather interface

As I remembered that GRT stopped selling the weather box due to patent problem. The new weather option is a XM Worx receiver with a GRT interface box. Notice different pictures shown on the GRT Pricing page and the EFIS page. When GRT stopped shipping their box, I brought AnyWhere Map/Weather that is also XM Worx based. I recently inquired about the price of the GRT interface box and were quoted $1,200. With my PDA based system installed, I felt hesitate to invest another $1,200 to get the GRT interface.
