Subject: [EggenfellnerSubaruSTI] RV8 STI preliminary top speed

Hi all,

I removed all drag devices from my top skin and flew

178 kts (two way gps) at 4000 feet, OAT 0?C, 1650 lbs weight
WOT, waste gate fully closed, 2600 RPM, 12.3 gph, 12.0 air/fuel ratio,
IAS was 168 kts on the dynon and on the manual indicator
coolant temp 211?F, oil temp 180?F, gear box 220?F
climb rate was 2000 feet per min. at 110kts IAS (don?t like to climb with 90
kts)

183 kts top speed should be possible at 6-7000 feet.
RV8s are usually a bit slower than RV7s... :(

I still have to rig my ailerons as I had a very heavy right wing at top
speed. Hopefully that will make it for another 2-3 kts more.

The speed recording got interrupted after 4 min. because the end-cap of a
supertrapp muffler got cracked. The cap was torn away from three of the six
screws. I was lucky that the exhaust gases were blown downwards this time.
This happens for the second time to me.
I highly recommend not to use supertrapps on the STI.
