Fiberglass Tips

I've started working on attaching the empennage fiberglass tips. Right away I discovered the rudder top tip does not fit cleanly in the rudder because the edges butt against the rib flange. It will fit if I remove approximately 3/16" of the tip edge, but then I won't have much distance between the rivet holes and the tip edge when I drill them.

All the emp tips have this issue. I'm wondering how others have handled this?

Thanks in advance.

That's about what you need to do. When I pop riveted mine in place, I put a dab of epoxy on the rivets to help hold them. I also made some AL reinforcing strips and epoxied them in the inside edge of the rivet flange on the tips.

There is a lot of shaping and filling required to get the fiberglass parts looking good and fitting properly. Wait 'til you get to the cowl. Just have some extra glass cloth, resin, and filler. You'll be a Corvette expert by the time you're flying.

Have fun!
