altimeter for IFR

Does anyone know the legal requirements for an altimeter in an experimental aircraft for IFR flight?

If I understand correctly, required IFR instruments don't have to be TSO'd in an experimental, but they have to meet the TSO requirements. In any case, I would want an accurate altimeter for obvious reasons. I would be interested in knowing what altimeter you guys are using.

Is there an inspection requirement for altimeters in experimentals as there is for certified IFR aircraft?

For VFR your static system, transponder, encoder, and altimeter must be checked for agreement one time by a certified repair station. After that only the transponder need be checked every 24 months. Required checks for IFR are the same as for standard certificated aircraft.
