A couple of us Rvers are thinking of stopping at KSDA for the cheaper fuel and possibly to spend the night there on the way to Oshkosh (weather permitting) . Any comments on using KSDA as an overnight stop? Shows courtesy cars available and several motels and restaurants close by. Then a short 2 hr flight to KOSH the next morning.

I cannot comment on KSDA, but 100 miles further along the track to Oshkosh I have used KIKV a few times. Good support, nearby hotels and several restaurants. Gas is certainly higher though.

I am hangared at the airport to the North 17 NM Red Oak KRDK with a RV9A we have a community hangar for around $25 a night or ramp parking for free. Good fuel prices, there are a couple of hotels and a crew car. Past years we always get some traffic and I look forward to meeting anyone if I know.

How's the grass strip at KRDK for RV's? I have a 7 and I want to add grass strips into my logbook.

Do you know about hangar availability at KRDK? Moving back there (Glenwood) and looking for a hangar, I haven't been able to get a hold of anyone at KRDK. Talked to a guy at Shenandoah, and he was looking into getting one for me, but I haven't heard back.

Maybe adding a grass strip to your log book is a good thing but is it wise to be trying something new on your way to greatest airshow on earth with all the pressure that that entails, just asking.
As I have said for years for people coming to The Big Show: If you haven't done it at home, don't try it here! Does that include that tight left base to final on runway 18? Yes. Should have practiced that at home. Just saying............

We are building a new hangar starting this year but probably wont be finished until 2027 some time. Call the airport and get your name on the waiting list. A new airport manager just started this month.

Who said anything of this being new to me? I didn't. We do not have grass here in Arizona so I'm looking to land at some on the way to/from Oshkosh. That's part of the fun of the journey and why I built his aircraft anyways.

I'm a son of a cropduster. I've landed on no more than a wagon trail (edited). I'm also based in the Phoenix area which is saturated with student pilots. I frequent Buckeye airport often which is a right hand pattern filled with learning pilots so I'm VERY comfortable with a tight right base/final in a chaotic pattern. In this case an example for RWY 27. I also frequent another non-towered airport just as busy with left traffic just the same. OSH is a cake walk in a comparison.

This thread has two specific questions. One from the OP for info on a specific airport and one from me about runway condition at a specific airport. If you're looking just to lecture this is not the thread. Take it elsewhere or start a new one. Please focus and stay on topic.

Thanks Kevin!

Maybe if you had worded your message about wanting to add a grass strip to your log we wouldn't have made the assumption that you hadn't landed on a grass strip before. Enjoy your trip.

Wow! I'd like to have seen THAT landing!! Was the wagon moving at the time??

Roads? We don't need no stinking ROADS.........🤪 Oh, the places I have landed and thought 'well THIS was a little rougher that I thought! But what a cool view of the river!!'

When things are really humming at OSH, the world's busiest airport, I must say not many people would agree with you that it is a 'cake walk' compared to most anything they have experienced in their flying career. This was not directed at you. Having worked OSH for several decades, I have seen more than enough SUPID from people doing things because they have an audience. This was not a lecture, only a reminder, which I have no regrets putting in where I can. But I digress........ Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............

Like Kevin M says KRDK is a great place to stop on the way to OSH. Its 30 miles north of Shenandoah. Cheap fuel and overnight hangar. Plus really nice people. Stay at the

Red Coach Inn & Suites. Good Mexican restaurant is right next door.

One more stop at Prairie du Chien for fuel so you have full tank when you get on the OSH arrival.

Hope to see you in a couple of weeks Kevin.
