Just to clarify something here. The RV-8 in question (the one who's wing "fell off") has been mentioned a couple of times, and a couple of times there was a vague suggestion that possibly the workmanship was at fault....i.e. that even Van's own prototype shop can make teeny weeny little mistakes that will go unnoticed and could eventually make your plane fall out of the sky.

Baloney.

The wing didn't just break in flight....specifically it was overstressed. No amount of alodining, priming, edge finshing, filing, torquing, or deburring will keep the plane from breaking when someone hauls back on the stick doing 190MPH.
