Try buying Dsub pins for 18g. They seem to only come from Garmin and in very low quantities and high $$$.

Stick to 20g max for Dsub connectors. :)

agreed. Don't forget that the spec for Dsub connectors is only 7 amps. An 18 ga wire will carry far more amps than the Dsub can handle and hence the limited availability of those pins.

If you need 18 ga to avoid voltage drop on a long wire run, there's nothing wrong with crimping a few inches of 20 ga in a pin, and splicing on 18 ga just outside the connector shell. Note that I'm not saying to overload the pin with >7A current. Just that this is a sensible method to avoid excessive voltage drop on long runs of wire.
