For many years, we’ve gotten rental cars at the show (because for many years we’ve had a communal house with magazine staff), but rental cars are just getting stupd expensive. I’ve noticed the “Uber pickup area” in the curve on Foundation road, across from the nature center for the past several years, and wonder if anyone has been using them to get around town, what the availability is like, and what has an “in town” ride cost you? Our rental house is out on Omro Road, and we can usually get a ride in, but generally we stay late for evening activities (I usually have three concurrent receptions I‘m supposed to be at every night) and the rest of the crew heads back to the house to write.

Any Intel you can share is appreciated!

As you are likely aware, Enterprise has been charging a hefty drop-off fee at Basler. If you pick up in town, near the Red Robin, you avoid the fees. We’ve been using Uber near the Homebuilt Camping to go to and from the Enterprise office. That’s the extent of our experience but it has worked great and we will be doing it again this year.

Uber has served Kelli and me well during past Airventures, having used that very same pickup and drop-off. It's about $15-20 to get to the UWOsh dorms.
 
I’ve seen an informal Uber pickup point at Friar Tucks parking lot.
I’ve also used Uber between Basler and the University.
 
For several years Bonnie and I have used Uber to attend an off site party at a residence in Oshkosh and it has worked well for us. Got picked up at the curve in the road by HBC.

Similar positive experience with Uber. We used for transportation between Basler and UW dorms, and dorms to restaurants. We never had more than a 5’ wait, and prices were comparable to major metro areas.

My only experience was taking an uber from ATW to the show and back, was quicker and cheaper than the shuttle.
 
Took an Uber from Target to Dick's Sporting Goods up by Omro Rd in 2025. $3.40 plus a $5 tip. Went via Uber a few times with other people's account. The Uber app seems to understand the road closures and one way roads around the airshow.

Also bummed a ride back from Walmart to HBC from the AOPA crew. It happened by chance, I saw three pilots wearing AOPA logos, heading out of Walmart, figured they had an empty seat and asked. Turned out one of them had previously lived where I live. Got to meet nice people and hear some interesting stories.

How about the late night availability implied in his request?

Not at OSH, but an Uber story. First time using it with my wife, flew to a city airport. Took a $20 Uber 20 minutes to a nice walkable shopping area. We spent the day, enjoyed ourselves. Late afternoon requested an Uber back to the airport, was informed there was a busy time of day surcharge, total was to be $80. The return driver knew nothing about it being busier and said he was only getting an extra $8.

I worry about Uber algos knowing they had us by the cajones.

Thinking out of the box a little, Our mutual friend Steve Ashby rents a pickup from U Haul ask me how I know... I could even take you there to pick it up:D

I've used them often. Pickup/drop off near the short cell antenna gate/HBC. Unfortunately, many of them are not familiar with the airshow traffic layout. A little patience with them figuring out the allowable traffic flow is helpful. But still, overall very handy for getting to distant restaurants, shopping, etc. Nice to help out the "locals" with a little economic support also.

I caught a Lyft from HBC around 10pm. Price was $7 to go from HBC to Target. Drivers are coming in from everywhere to try and get a piece of the traffic.
 
We have used them for many years to pick up groceries at the store next to Target. We ride the welcome wagon to Fryer Tucks, walk to the store, buy groceries, call Uber, they pick us up in minutes, drive us to the gate north of the HBC pavilion. If we have a lot of groceries, we have them stop at the pavilion where we unload them and pass them over or under the fence to other members of our group. They cannot drive onto the grounds so they have to drop us at the gates. It works out well for our needs.
 
Uber drove us back to the airport after a dinner at The Roxy last year. The cost was a very reasonable $12.
Note to all, the Oshkosh City bus no longer stops at the Bus Park. The Wittman terminal on the north side of the airport is the current closest bus stop. Even though, the ride downtown is $2.
 
Bruce (Brielmaier) and I took an Uber to the Acey Duecy a couple years ago. After not too long we decided to walk down the street to Pete’s Garage Bar. That’s when I discovered my wallet was missing. Must have slipped out of my pocket in the Uber car. As we stepped outside of the Acey Duecy, our Uber driver pulled in to the parking lot. He stood up out of his car holding up my wallet and said “loose something?” Those Wisconsin boys are trustworthy!
He picked us up originally at the gate next to the HBC pavilion.
 
As Jeff said, depends, outside gate at north end of Bonzo Drive & Knapp Street, and outside the gate behind Cell array on Foundation Rd. and out side gate at Waukau & Forest Home, next to the Bus Park would be my best guess. during show week one way traffic can be a concern on Foundation Rd. as well as Knapp St. outside the north gate.
 
It's faster to get dropped off at the tavern and walk/grab a bus, the circle of dread is real!
 
I plan on parking my car at LaQuinta in Appleton about 6:00 AM Monday morning and taking an Uber in. Want to be there early so I can make the 8:30 What's new at Vans presentation, then Uber back to the hotel after the RV social. Second time but was only there for 1 day before so not really familiar. Looking at the map and the 4 drop off points, where should I tell the Uber to drop me coming from Appleton? Thanks in advance.
 
Ride report for Uber. Got picked up at 6:00 at La Quinta and at EAA by 6:30. I put EAA AirVenture as my destination and it directed the driver to the museum. Really made the EAA people unhappy when he whipped a U turn, dumped me out, and went the wrong way down a one way. If I were to do it again I would just put Friar Tucks as the destination. On the main road and looked pretty easy to get to. $37 from Appleton.
