Here I am back again.
The cowl tool is working out just fine but this 2-day job is dragging; I haven't been working on the airplane. I got the cowl assembled and back on and found that the aft edge of the lower cowl needed trimming. I spent much of today doing that: mark where needed, remove, trim, install, repeat. But getting fairly close.
I've been using a bungee across the top of the engine mounts and down to two clips on the lower cowl to help support it while doing the removal/reinstallation. Here's a very poor photo, showing the bungee, the fitting and the ignition leads which are presently unconnected.

RV4 brake line routing and bleeding? …HFS
EZ-FILL Brake Reservoir Fitting
This is a little fitting I make to automatically retain the necessary "head space" (air gap) in your brake fluid reservoir when bleeding the brakes. Especially handy in those situations where "mini" reservoirs are mounted on the brake master cylinders, deep down in the "well" of the fuselage.
When installed, the tube inside the reservoir limits the level of fluid rise when bleeding, before overflowing the excess to a catch basin - with the air "gap" above being maintained for future use when operating the brake system.
Most reservoirs have a 1/8-27 NPT thread, but there are a few out there that use 1/4-18 NPT - and I make both sizes.
This is just an idea that I DIYed because I could, but anyone can do the same ...
If anyone has any interest, I'll be glad to send one for your toolbox ...

The "attached" op instructions are for a FW mounted reservoir, but works just the same on reservoirs on master cylinders ...

Throttle and mixture fire wall locations
Mine exit just starboard of center and just above the crossbar of the engine mount. I wanted a straight shot at the terminal mounting hardware for the mixture and throttle fittings. This seemed to be the best place. Your engine and carburetor should maybe be in place to approximate where you want them to come out. OR just measure starboard of center somewhere. Make sure you miss the crossbar....
If you can estimate where the mounting hardware is going to be, you might be able to just have the engine mount on without the engine. I can't remember exactly how I lined mine up. It might be in the plans... The space from the firewall to the mounting hardware, as you can see, is quite short in a -4. This is for an O-320 but is probably similar.....
I think the Rocket engine mount might be a little larger than the -4 allowing more room to curve the cables around as seen in Post #2. Not sure how to get them lined up from the port cheek faring

5x5 nose tire on 9A - New wheel required?
Considering going with the 380 main tires and a modified front fork on my 9a, with a 5x5 front tire. Is a new front wheel required for the larger tire, or can the stock one be used?

I will be rebuilding my right master cylinder soon and want to be prepared for bleeding the system. My RV4 has a bleed fitting at the high point in the line, located in the cheek cowl, aft of the firewall. Is this the normal location for a bleed valve (I always thought they were down on the...
