Can Akzo Nobel 463-12 primer be used as a primer under Spies Hecker Permacron 293 Base directly or should I plan to use a sealer between the two products

Thanks

To the paint beehive,

I’ll ask this in a broader way, Are all epoxy paints created equal, can you cross link them with other urethane paints.?

From what I can tell, the paint system i plan to use doesn’t offer an epoxy primer, so I’m looking for an epoxy primer that can cross link to the spies hecker urethane paint.

I was always impressed with Akzo noble 463-12 epoxy primer and used that though out my interior build

Thanks in advance!

Call Marlin at Fultron Aviation in Springfield, MO. They painted my RV10 and use Spies Hecker.

Pretty much all polyurethane paints, including epoxy primer use isocyanates as curing activators. To me that implies the the chemical cross linking will occur the same way with all of them. Not a chemist, but received that info from an owner of a mid size poly paint manufacturer. No surprise that paint makers tell you must buy all of the products from them otherwise it won’t work. Pretty sure that info comes from marketing not engineering.

Many collision shops use spi epoxy primer even though the other coats are from ppg or others.
