When I installed my 0235 C-1 in the RV3 I put on a vans oil cooler on #4
rear baffle. My oil temps were low only getting to 175-180 with a plate
over rear of cooler. This was in Sept with warm but not extremely hot
days of July and Aug like we have here in southern tenn. I removed the oil
cooler due to a suspected leak and flew without it on a 3 hour 500 mile
round trip cross country this sat. The temp was around 70 degrees. On the
outbound 250miles I saw 202 degrees and coming back in the warmer
afternoon it got up to 205. Here is my plan and would like any advice
anyone has to offer. I sm going to install a remote oil filter and take out
the screen leaving the empty screen housing in place. I can do this as i
have a spring and plunger instead of vernitherm and will plumb filter
where the cooler was previously connected. The filter CH108 will be
on the firewall using a 6061 billet racing adapter and will be shrouded
with a 1 1/2 inch scat hose blowing air from back of upper baffle. If needed
I will also fabricate a heat sink that clamps around filter. If I can keep my
max hot day temp 190-200 I would much prefer to have a good oil filter
than a oil cooler.
Thanks
