They changed for me as well when the page layout was altered a few weeks ago. They aren't bad on my work computer but my laptop doesn't display them very well. These are the same computers I have been using for years, so something has changed. Maybe a java update or something is causing the difference? Or maybe it's my 'upgrade' to ie7 on the laptop. The work computer is still on ie6.
Nothing seems to have changed elsewhere, though.

I got an option on the upgrade install of "enhanced readability" or some equivalent, and I said yes.
