I first flew my RV8A in 2001. It is an easy flying bird with no bad habits until you hit rough air going 180 mph. At this speed with your feet off the off the rudders the bird yaws. Put your feet on the rudder peddles and the yaw settles down. Slow down and it goes away.

It seems maybe I need something to hold tension on the rudder cables. Has anyone else experienced this and if so what did you do?

Me too

I get the same yaw in my 9A in rough air. Has been discussed before on this forum. I really think it is characteristic of these aircraft.
That said, I usually find it more comfortable to rest my feet on the rudder pedals anyway.
