Hi I have an experiment I want to do and see if the rather abysmal Sky-Tec 149-12LS starter can be restored to new condition. Please let me know if you have one for sale. If the mounting casting is cracked that makes them unusable but otherwise I think it's worth a try.

Hi Peter,

I rebuilt one -details in this newsletter - Mostly Ford parts. After rebuilding, it spins great. Rebuild was pretty easy-the hard part is getting that casting.

Same experience, but i didnt do the rebuild.
It seems if the case is good, the rest can be replaced. The shop told me it matched a 90s Ford Taurus, and replaced the solenoid and teeth for about $75.
 
I just dropped you a message. Just changed the starter on my Mooney. It may be a candidate for you.
