Since my second hand wing kit did not come with the original fiberglass tips I will eventually need to purchase new ones. I know of 3 different wing tip designs; the original hoerner style, the later bat wing style and the current RV-7/8 style. I have seen examples of -4's with all three and my personal preference is the newest style seen on the -7/8 from a purely aesthetic point of view. My question however is, how do each perform? I've read the original hoerner style offer a bit more lift at slow speed but is there a speed advantage of one of the 3 styles? Has anyone directly compared the different tips on their -4? This is all just food for thought right now because the decision point is a long time off.
