I finally got my first wingtip all lined up and drilled for nut plates. According to the plans there is a reinforcement strip needed if you use pop rivets but not needed for nut plates. Some builder sites I've seen still use the reinforcement strip with the nut plates. Anybody have an issues with the nut plates and no reinforcement strip.

thanks!

The reinforcement is needed for pop rivets because the small round "shop head" can pull through the fiberglass quite easily. The nut-plate has a much larger footprint. So the reinforcement is not needed.

If you are on batwing tips, you may also want to consider some spanwise reinforcing using 1" square blue foam glassed in with deck cloth.

When you come to pushing and pulling your aeroplane when finished, it stops the tips deforming.
