I've got my wings (RV-9) or order from Vans, and it looks like they should be here around the end of January.

In preparation for there arrival I'm thinking about going ahead and building my wing stands.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to build them, or a link to the Van's instructions that I assume will come with the wing kit?

I'm thinking about doing the metal ones, but I'm not thrilled with the idea of bolting them into my slab.

Thanks,

-Dan

Preview Plans

My RV7 preview plans had the wing jig on DWG12a. I would think the RV9 preview plans would also have the jig details in it.

Wing Jig Stand

I finished my -9A wings in about four months using this wing stand / jig:

4x4's, 2x4's, plywood, some aluminum angle and all-thread (Home depot stuff). Was NOT bolted to the floor, and it was plenty stable. My wife would help me flip the wings when necessary, (took about 30 seconds.)

When it came to rear spar work and finishing the wings I converted to using this cradle:

Let me know what dimensions you need.

I couldn't put floor to ceiling posts where I wanted them, due to interference with the garage door, and the free-standing wing jig looked like too much work. I borrowed these steel stands and bolted them to the floor. I actually have three sets of holes in the floor, one fixed end, a set for the other end of an HRII, and a set about 6-8 inches further out for the RV-7. I'll just grout the holes when I'm done.

The "rotisserie" feature eliminated the need for shimming when ensuring no twist in the spar, and made for easy access for riveting the main skins to the rear spar:
