Hi all:

I can't recall if it is necessary to do the fanning out process when drilling your wing skins on the matched hole kits. Anyone know?

Yes, it is necessary.

Start in the middle and work outward. It will help eliminate the chance of any puckering. This might be a bigger issue on the longer wing of the -9 than on an -8 or -7 but it is still "best practice".

wing skin drilling

I don't think I'd bother fanning out with the drilling, but I don't think it would take any more (or less) time than starting out at one end and working to the other. Can't remember if I did or not (RV-9A).

But the instructions say to do so during the riveting and that is what I did.
