I'm working on the baggage compartment and there are a lot of removable panels (bulkhead, flap access, tunnel access, front seat floors, etc). I notice the Vans just calls for #8 screws into nutplates.

Why isn't there a washer under the screw head? I know it's not a big deal but I guess I like washers. I have some thin aluminum washers AN960PD-8L that weigh almost nothing and are very thin. Any issues with using these or is it just me over-thinking? Am I the only one that wants to see a washer under a screw head?

Dave,
You can certainly use washers under these screws. I do! Washers protect the paint when tightening the screws.

I always use nylon washers under flat head screws on inspection covers. cowl, spinner, etc. The nylon is slippery and helps protect the paint from getting spun off.

I didn't use washers, just 8-32 cap screws. Less damage to the paint and much easier to install and remove.
