I know Dynon has scaled pics on their website, but what about other vendors? For example, in looking at Garmin for their SL-40 etc, no joy. Is there a repository of these somewhere (eg someone's website), or does everyone just play with a copier until the size gets close to published spec?

When I am Laying out a panel with cad I Generally go to each MFG's website and get the dimensions. They are available. Be sure to add some space between radios (.02~.04).

If you need help my services are available, I can print a full size panel with the avionics cut outs, switch cut outs, and panel Labeling.
