....does the unit show the three IAF's as depicted on approach plates? Does it automatically guide you to the most appropriate one for the present course?

When I've practised with my 496, it only shows the FAF, so I got to wondering about my 430W being installed this week.

Thanks,

Pierre, I have yet to actually shoot an approach with my 430W, but from using the 430W simulator, you choose the initial approach fix to start from if you are performing the full approach, otherwise, you choose vectors.

Have you played with the simulator? I busted out my approach plates and practices a few.

See if this link works: http://www8.garmin.com/include/SimulatorPopup.html

Yes

I haven't flown the 430W, just the 430. Whole different animal than the 496 on my current plane.

When you load an approach you have to choose between one of the IAF's or "vectors". I handles the rest until the MAP

You'll love it.
