I just replaced the DG and AH with a Dynon D-10A. I now have a large hole in the panel with no great ideas for finding something with which to fill it. Ideally, I would like to find something functional, inexpensive, and quick to install. Currently, I am strictly VFR, but would like to have the IFR option, someday. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I would make a Blank Plate that fits in from the back and paint to match the panel. It will have nut-plates that use the existing instrument mounting holes. IF you ever find something that you want to add, just remove the blank plate (hole cover) and install.

Even though glass is the latest/greatest thing I still love my 6-pack instruments. Altimeter, airpspeed and vertical speed are the ones I look at the most, so I would suggest adding a nice VS.

Tin can pencil holder! Easy to replace with something else later on. :D Sorry, couldn't resist.

I did what Gary suggested. Just make a cover blank with nutplates on it for screws to be attached from the back. I painted it to blend in with the panel.

Put a manifold pressure gauge in it, presuming you don't have one already.
Or a cool looking clock from a WWII bomber, like a Waltham 24 hour 8 day unit.

Thanks,

Not sure what you consider inexpensive, here is a very high value, functional way to fill that hole:

+1 for a blank plate

1. Quick - even at my pace.
2. Cheap - beer cans are readily available, and have a great history of airframe repairs http://www.seawolf.org/seawolf324.pdf
3. Easily upgraded, when funds/needs change.

Cover plates are certainly inexpensive but none of the ones I've seen are very functional. I'd be inclined to use the space for a USB port or two. They're inexpensive and functional.

Thanks all for the suggestions. The Trio Avionics AP looks awesome, but is too much work and money at this point. I like the idea of a 3" VSI. Then, I could remove the 2" VSI and install an EI Commander to watch over the dual PMags I already have (and love).

BTW, the EICommander can also function as a MAP, if you need/want while keeping an eye on your P-mags.

Check your PM's.

I had the same issue with my old Stinson, ended up putting in a Narco Escort II nav/com.

I know that this radio is no longer produced, but I suspect other manufactures out there make a similar unit.

Backup nav/com is handy.

A flat plate with velcro on it. Then you can stick any number of things to it... Cell phone, iPod, aerobatic routine, checklists, maybe even a glass of milk. Just keep it positive G...
