I am dimpling (#6) the trim reinforcement plate on the left elevator of my RV-9A. The plans call to dimple for a #6 screw. What drill size should I use to match drill these holes and can I assume that a #6 screw uses a #6 dimple die?

Get a catalog from Cleaveland Tool. They have a great pull out poster with all the rivet, screw, bolt and drill sizes that you can put on your shop wall.

For a 6-32 screw, a #27 or #28 drill will provide close tolerance for the screw to fit through. A #35 or #36 drill is used if you are going to tap threads for a 6-32 screw. Here's a chart example.. http://www.physics.ncsu.edu/pearl/Tap_Drill_Chart.html
There is a special dimple die for a #6 screw that you can get from Avery or Cleaveland, etc. http://www.cleavelandtoolstore.com/prodinfo.asp?number=DIE5096 for an example from Cleaveland.
