What do I need to know?

I know I need a prop, a governor, and a hollow crank engine.

I'm assuming there are a few odds and ends like oil lines, brackets, cables etc.

Is there anything I need to check or know about the hollow crank? If its hollow am I good to go, or are there certain cranks that will and won't work?

Looking at an -8 that currently has a fixed pitch prop, owner says it has a hollow crank.

Are the cowling issues or different -8 cowls for fixed vs c/s props?

First understand that "just" a hollow crank does not mean that the engine is compatible with a C/S prop. There are other considerations. For instance, the front main bearing and/or the crankcase may not be compatible.

C/S Prop

Just going through this myself.
Great place to start is the IPC manual so you can see what parts are used.
For example:

Also the TCDS is helpful to trace back the engine.

For example I have an O-360-C2E which traces back to the A1A and the above parts catalog shows that C2E has the same crank (hollow) and the same front bearing (With the oil holes). Also the idler gears in the acc case are correct.
Also shows that the prop governor adaptor can be installed with the gear from outside without pulling the acc case.

So I am good, still putting together the parts to pull this off though ;-)

Each of these engines seem different so do some more research.
And let us know how it turns out.
