I just wanted to share something I found during my annual. I have a carbed Lycoming O-320 and so run the low pressure facet electric fuel pump. Never had any problems. I check it before start by turning it on and checking for a rise in fuel pressure, always worked good, in fact as far as I know it still works. What got my attention was that when I inspected the fuel pump during my annual it was covered with several spots of sticky "goo". The goo had been stained blue by fuel (I am assuming). I replaced the pump, but I am curious if anyone else has experienced this and what exactly the goo is. I don't think the goo is pure fuel residue b/c there was no evidence of any staining elsewhere other than the spots you see on the pump. Could it be dried up fuel stained grease? I am going to open up the pump at some point but I wanted to test the functionality on a bench first.
I am also curious if any carb users use the "gold-flow" 40131E facet pump.
Thanks,
Bryan
