Does anybody have a link to a CLEAR and UP-CLOSE video on making the D Sub and Molex connectors. Youtube videos I found were all out of focus on the close up. Thanks Ron in Oregon:rolleyes:

Stein has some videos on you tube, but I don't recall into how much detail,they went.

Vertical power has a pretty good document that walks through building several of the popular connectors. It's available in their document section.

Ok loved the sites guys. ended up hours from one to another. It gave me the kick start for my electrical journey. I did find I used the wrong crimpers but they where on test pieces of wire. It seems its like the camping trip Iam going on, but I was reminded don't forget the spare tube......... whatever that means. Much appreciated.

Invest in some good crimpers. I got a smokin' deal on the AFM-8 from DMC tools on Ebay, the crimper and a boatload of positioners for about a hundred bucks. You'll need the K13-1 for D-subs (both male and female) and K41 and K42 for high density D-subs (one for pins, the other for sockets, I forget which is which).

Well worth the money...check Ebay, they show up often.

Oh, and get a decent insertion/removal tool for both sizes, too. Five or six bucks for each one, IIRC.
 
Thanks Steve. Went to NORVAC electronics and bought that crimper and molex pins. Works great thanks . didn't buy D sub pins because they came in packages with my Dynon 10". Are you putting in a Dynon?

DTM connectors

FWIW. DTM connectors were recommended by someone on this site. They are water resistant and I put them a couple places in the tail. They are crimp on like Dsub and pins can be gold plated and have a mounting base option.

Not a video, but the aeroelectric website has great shop guides with good closeup photos. Unfortunately the site is not well organized so it's hard to find the good stuff.

Molex

D-Sub Pin Extraction
D-Sub pin crimping and insertion is easy. With the right tool, put the pin or socket into the center of the tool so the open end is up, the pin or socket down. The open end should be about level with the tool face. Insert wire, and squeeze the handles: 4 or 8 crimps are made. Inspect closely to ensure the crimps are made to the stripped wire.

Insert by just pushing your pin or socket with crimped wire into the appropriate plug until a slight click tells you it's seated.
