Working on mounting the VS to the fuse. I have the rear spar bolted to the elevator stop on the aft deck and I'm now working on the forward attach plate. The instruction say to mount to either the front or aft face of F-781 to keep the hinge line straight and use a shim if req'd.
I'm using the aft face and an .032 shim doesn't seem to make a difference. The top is slightly aft of being straight (i.e. a straight edge on the bottom and middle hinges, hit a little forward on the top hinge). Any suggestions?
Also, the plans call for trimming 5/8" off the bottom flanges of the VS forward spar (dwg 27A, VS-702 Trim Detail), but there doesn't seem to be any reason to trim these flanges. Am I missing something?
