Two questions regarding installation of the VS.

First, is it normal / acceptable to trim the forward spar of the VS by 1/8-1/4"? If I don't, the rear spar won't sit flush on the F-812 bulkhead. I thought I remembered something about trimming but I can't find it in the plans.

Second, I have an issue with the F-812. The quickbuild factory didn't do a good job of jigging the fuse, and as a result I have one side skin 3/32" forward of the other, causing the F-812 to be twisted. Doing the math, I come up with a deflection of 1.3 deg, or in other words, the front of the stab is 5/8" off centerline (left rudder equivalent).

I see four possibilities:

1) Let the aft spar twist--probably will cause binding in rudder hinge line.
2) Shim the aft spar--Should really be a tapered shim to do it properly. However, the bolts wouldn't sit truly flush unless I shimmed the front side also.
3) Drill out 48 rivets, and order new F-812s
4) Put it on crooked, and add a bigger trim tab.

Number 3 is the only one that makes sense to me, but I'm not looking forward to drilling out all of those rivets. Any Ideas?

Thanks,
Paige
