Last week my VM1000 began displaying a constant manifold pressure reading of 43.6 inches. Obviously, since my RV-3 is not turbocharged, something was amiss. I did the normal checks on the wiring, mount, etc with any changes.
So, my next effort was to call JPI who is now the parent company of the VM 1000 series engine monitors. They confirmed that my manifold pressure transducer was the probable culprit. But, when they said a new transducer would be $395.00 I decided to do a little more homework. What I found was, the small black plastic module (the transducer) attached to larger aluminum base could be easily removed with the aid of phillips screwdriver. And, on its bottom was the manufacturer's name and part number. (Sen-Sym p/n SCX15AN). A quick call to Digi-Key produced a new module for about $80.00. I flew my fully repaired RV-3 today and everything was running great!!
I have subsequently discovered that Allied Electrical has the part for around ten dollars less.
