I want to put a vert card compass in my panel rather than on the roll bar brace. Those of you who have done this: Is the compass accurate? Do your elec gyros and radios cause errors? How far from electronic gear must I place it?

Vertical Card placement

I had mine in right next to the comm radio and gyros on my old ship with no problems at all. These have a useful life of about 5 years or 500 hours flight time. I was told that by the Precision folks. I have a 6 year old one that will not turn at all. The rebuild from the factory is only 90% of the cost of a new one. I just bought a brand new Airpath C2300-L4 for my RV-8A. You can have my old Precision VCC if you want it. Just don't complain that it won't turn.

Precision Vertical Compass Card

We placed ours in the panel and several sources told us that this is an acceptable practice.
I noticed this card to be very sensitive to metal and electrical current and was skeptical at first. I am told that the vibration of a plane actually improves the functionality of this unit. I will let you know if this is the case or if we have to move this to the windshield brace. Here is a shot of our panel with the Vertical Compass card in the panel.
