I have a slider with a whiskey compass mounted to a bracket welded to the forward canopy brace (sorry, no good picture at this time).

1) Is this a normal location or was the welded on bracket a custom thing?

2) If its a normal installation, is the a recommended vertical card compass to put there instead? Any issues with this placement?

thanks

Martin, the brace is stainless steel, so it doesn't interfere with the magnetic compass's accuracy.

If the welded-on bracket is not stainless, it may be a problem.

I'll remove the old compass and check it with a magnet. I'll probably go ahead and de-gauss the whole thing anyway if I can find a growler.
