I'm looking for a picture of the bottom of the vertical stabilizer fuse connection on an 8.

When lining up the locating hole and the 812b angle\control stop (neither drilled
in my -1 kit) the bottom of the vert. stab. is about 1/8" up from the tail spring
mount cut out.
My thought is that it should be lower to ensure the top 2 of 3 bolts hit the aft tail spring mount correctly.
How did yours line up?
Thanks !

Steve,

The vertical positioning of the vertical tail on an -8 is one of those little puzzles that stumps almost everyone until they find the obscure measurement in an equally obscure spot on a drawing that isn't obvious.....unfortuantely, I can't remember where it is right now - but there have been threads on this before! You are correct in assuming that the bolts want to pick up the structure correctly. Do NOT drill anything until you find this!

Got ya Paul!
On 1 drawing it shows the bottom as I said ... just barely above the cutout for the tail spring (actually right on it).
That's what got my attention as well as the edge distance.

Ah Ha ...

Found my answer and pic.
The bottom of the vert. stab does need to be just above the tail spring as seen in Rick Galati's pic. and on the plans.

Vans instruction to center the locating hole (7/16 down on the 812b per Scott) put my stab. 1/8" too high.

The DWG 73 has still not been corrected (At least on my DWG).
It shows a measurement of 7/8 -2PL.
This has been revised to 1 23/32".
Jeff Preou has a great page on this http://www.mykitlog.com/users/display_log.php?user=jpreou&project=45&category=0&log=35967&row=2
Time to go out there today and try again.
Thanks again Paul for affirming my thoughts.
