The Independence EAA Chapter 292 will be hosting Van's Homecoming again in 2008. The date is August 15-17, 2008. Similar to last year's events, (but even better!). Free housing will be available to those who pre-register. We'll have a breakfast fest, musical entertainment and perhaps a pig-n-keg roast. We'd like to do a group airplane photograph on the ramp this year (hint, hint DR!) and we're planning a special banquet at a new venue to be announced very soon! For more information, contact me or Keith Hamilton at khamilton (at) minetfiber (dot) com

We'll have the web links for signups on the EAA292 (www://eaa292.org) site updated on Monday, but here's an update on events.

For those of you not aware, Van's Homecoming event will again be held at Independence Airpark (7S5) this year and will kick off with a BBQ on Friday the 15th at 5PM-7PM at the EAA 292 Chapter hangar. The cost for the BBQ will be $15.00. We are requesting that all people who plan to attend the Friday nite BBQ send a note to us so we give the caterers (http://www.adamsribs.org/) some idea of how much food to prepare.

Amanda Richards (http://www.amandarichards.net), a homegrown Oregon musician and her band who played for us last year will be on hand before/during the BBQ to provide musical entertainment. Following the Friday nite BBQ, there will be a hangar dance (free) at one of the hangars (another RV builder...) in the airpark, guaranteed enjoyment based on my previous experience...

On Saturday morning, August 16th, there will be a pancake breakfast at the EAA 292 hangar, which will be put on by the chapter volunteers at EAA292. This event will be from 8 until about 11AM.

Many aircraft builders in the airpark will have their hangars open and visitors are encouraged to walk the taxiways, meet new people and talk airplanes.

The Saturday night banquet will be at the Independence Elks Lodge on the banks of the Willamette River. The Elks will provide a bus for transportation for those who would like it. It's about a 10-15 minute walk through the neighborhoods to get to the Elks Lodge from the airport. Van's Aircraft handles sales of tickets to the banquet.

Many people in the airpark have signed up to accept overnight visitors in (nice accomodations), and there are plenty of rooms left at this point, so let us hear from you soon. Many people who attended last year had such a great time they put their "reservations" in for this year before they left. Besides being a no-cost way to stay, this is a great way to meet people who have the same addictions you do.

This is a people oriented event, it's not a chapter fund raiser (EAA 292 does not make one cent off of this) or commercial venture...if you want to look at lots of RV's, maybe get a ride, meet a lot of veteran RV builders...Independence will be a great place to be August 15th-17th. Willamette Valley weather has been great this summer, with evening temperatures in the 50's and daytime highs in the upper 70's to mid 80's.

We look forward to seeing you here!
